Dr Laja Odunuga joined GSK in August 2011 as the Medical Adviser of GSK Anglophone West Africa and later GSK Nigeria. He has supported all therapy areas across the business units of Pharmaceutical, Vaccine and Consumer and has brought significant improvement in the implementation of Medical Governance processes and Scientific Engagement activities at the LOC.
As the NSC for the LOC, he has been responsible for training of staff and all third-party agents on AE reporting beside other roles of managing adverse event reports received in line with GSK processes. He has been the LOC Medical Lead for the Inspiration meetings since 2012 till date and also serves as the Medical Lead for the first LOC-facilitated webcast for pharmacists. In addition, he has facilitated the roll-out and successful implementation of several clinical research studies at the LOC and has served as the Study Accountable Person for some.
Dr Laja Odunuga is a Medical graduate of the University of Ilorin, with a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Lagos and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health in the National Post graduate Medical College. He started his medical career as a medical officer and rose to the position of Consultant Public Health physician with Lagos Health Service Commission. He worked at several government hospitals across the state including Massey’s Street Children Hospital and General hospital Badagry.
Dr Odunuga started and completed his residency training programme in Public health at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife. He worked as a General Medical Officer at Mkushi District Hospital Mkushi Central Province, Zambia. On his return to Nigeria he worked as the Child survival Program Manager on the USAID funded project community participation for action in the social sector and later the Technical Malaria manage for Lagos and Ogun on the Department for International Development (DFID) funded Malaria control programme.
